Scam: Facebook attempting to collect peoples ABN numbers

In the latest scam from Facebook, they are now trying to collect your ABN number to better identify you.

When you log into Facebook you might see the following text, advising that you will be charged 10% more for advertising for not providing your ABN details.

Update Your Tax Info
Due to changes in Australian law, we need to confirm whether you are GST registered. Please provide your Australian Business Number (ABN) to confirm GST registration and use of advertising for business purposes. If you choose not to provide your ABN, you will be charged 10% tax on the ads you run.

The reality is that most purchases are made with a 10% tax component and the amount claimed back at tax time. Don’t get caught out providing your ABN details to Facebook. They only want the details to better identify who you are.
